Workday and Anthropic announce Sana in Claude; plugin remains early access
Workday and Anthropic announced a partnership on October 13, 2026 to connect Claude with Sana agents and Workday HR and finance context. Workday says people will be able to start tasks in Sana or Claude, exchanging information and tasks through the Model Context Protocol. These are announced product capabilities, not independent evidence that the integration performs every business process correctly.
The availability distinction is important for buyers. Workday lists the Sana in Claude plugin as available to early-access customers, with general availability expected in late 2026. An expected release window is not a committed delivery date. The announcement does not say that every Claude subscriber or every Workday account can enable the plugin immediately.
Workday separately says Agent-Ready Tools are generally available to all customers through Workday Extend AI and will reach customers through the plugin later this year. Those two routes have different availability statements. Teams should confirm their relevant Workday products, access and rollout status rather than treating general availability of the tools as general availability of the Claude plugin.
In Sana, Workday describes agents handling longer HR and finance processes while calling on Claude for individual reasoning steps. Its example shares the context needed to draft a manager's explanation of an employee raise, with exceptions sent for human review. The company describes data staying within Workday while selected context is shared for a step; this is not a blanket promise that no information ever reaches Claude.
In Claude, the company describes employees analyzing permitted Workday data and taking actions such as routing invoice exceptions. It says existing Workday permissions and audit controls apply, and its announcement states that the user confirms every change. These controls are vendor descriptions, not independent certification of security, legal compliance or protection from an erroneous action.
The release does not give a dollar price, complete regional access list or final commercial terms for this experience. It may interest joint customers seeking HR and finance work inside Claude, but procurement still needs to verify access, costs and data-handling terms. Early access, a roadmap and illustrative workflows are not a reason to assume production readiness for every organization.
